Front or rear?
Have a dodge challenger what do i do to change drum to disc brakes?
You will need to buy a conversion kit for the vehicle search on line.Depending on what type of set up you want it can run you $1000.00 for parts only and if you are going to race you will be spending more.If you are handy with cars you can do this in a weekend you have to change the spindles master cylinder, etc. Good Luck

How do i change rear drum brakes on a 2003 dodge minivan? no star wheel to loosen brakes?
First, go to your local auto supply store. Many of them have tools you can use....if the tools are the problems. If you just don't know how to do it, you can go to the library. They have Chilton books (or you can buy one at most auto supply stores).

Drum brake piston popped out changed shoes(fluid leaked), do i need to bleed brakes now?
when I was doing my drum brakes for the first time a piston got pushed out a bit too much and a bunch of fluid came out. now its harder to push down on my pedal, does this mean air got into my brake line when i popped the cylinder back in or something?
Drum brake piston popped out changed shoes(fluid leaked), do i need to bleed brakes now?
yes it sounds like an air lock, bleed them out as far as the e brake when you put the drums back on did you knock of the e brake cable? it is easy to do with some cars it just lets the cable slid with out catching if you did your brakes you probably know how to bleed them but here are 3 sites any way
Drum brake piston popped out changed shoes(fluid leaked), do i need to bleed brakes now?
yup,bleed the brakes
You say the brake pedal is %26quot;harder to push down%26quot;, and it should be the other way around if there were air in it. But I would bleed it any way, just in case.
As for the emergency brake, while you can adjust the cable, you normally shouldn't.
When the parking brake is loose, it is usually due to the rear shoes not being adjusted right.
Either manually adjust them, or repeat the auto adjustment sequence.
Which is normally to apply the parking brake in reverse, over and over.
If the pedal get hard to push, often that is a symptom of frozen wheel cylinders.

Why do my drum brakes squeal the first time I press on the brakes?
It only seems to happen the first time I use the brakes. It doesn't happen anymore once the car is warmed up. I have a 2005 eclipse. I just changed the front brakes, so those are ok. What could be the cause of this annoyance?
Why do my drum brakes squeal the first time I press on the brakes?
It,s the friction material that is used on the brakes. These days they use metalic material in the linings asbestos is no longer used .Moisture sometimes builds up in the material when sitting.Making shure you put the e brake on when parking helps

What are the colors of the drum brake springs mean?
When I changed my drum brakes yesterday. I see the return springs, holddown springs and a few others with colors. They were red, orange, black, white, blue. Why are they color-coded? Were they painted so the mechanics will not get confused which spring goes where?
What are the colors of the drum brake springs mean?
It is NOT nothing. Wow. Those colors on the springs indicate different tension values among springs of the same size and shape. For emaple, white and blue springs are the same length. ( about 4-1/4%26quot;) but white spring is rated at 50 lb. and blue is rated at 65 lb. tension.
What are the colors of the drum brake springs mean?
Most likely nothing. It's probably just a thing the manufacturer of the parts does. Any good mechanic should be able to replace drum brakes without needing color coding.
That sounds like as good an answer as any.

I have a 65 Mustang and want to know approximatly how much it would cost for me to change my drum brakes to disc brakes...i was planning on doing the work myself, but would it be terribly hard for me to do that myself?
also, my engine is a straight 6, if that has anything to do with anything...also i believe it's a 200 cubic engine, incase you need to know that to answer...thank you.

How much for a drum to disc brake conversion?
The 6 cylinder Mustangs did use different brake drums and four bolt wheels so that could make a difference. http://www.scarebird.com is a company that makes disc brake conversion systems for a variety of cars including '65 Mustangs. I visited their site and it looks like a Mustang system costs $125. They estimate the total cost to be about $350 if the off-the-shelf brake parts needed (brake calipers, rotors, etc.) are purchased from discount internet supplier http://www.RockAuto.com
