when i get down changing all of that do i pump the brakes like you would do when you get down changing disc brakes to get the shoes in the right place

yes but only with the drums on. turn the adjuster until the drum fits on and is not loose but will still turn with your hands. it will make the petal higher. disk brakes do not have to be adjusted but shoes brakes do. if its all new brake parts there wont be much ajustment needed
