Can't find drum brake adjuster on my Saturn.?

I'm changing the rear brakes on my '99 SL1. I can't find the access hole for the brake adjuster to release the brakes.

The Star-Wheel is above the wheel bearings on Saturns. This picture here shows it pretty good.

Look for a rubber plug that seals the hole, and pry it out. Sometimes they just have an indentation with a metal blank you have to knock out with a chisel or punch the first time. Either one will be a long oval shape, like a slot with rounded ends.

Some cars just don't have a hole to adjust from the back of the plate. You just have to adjust them as best you can with the drum removed and then put the drum back on. A slight drag when you turn the drum by hand is a typical proper adjustment.

I understand... sometimes they just have to be forced off. You might have to open the bleeder or crack loose the brake line to let some pressure off the shoes. You will have to bleed them when you get the new ones installed but you probably would have to do that anyway.
I hope this helps I had a truck that you had to screw in to the drum two bolts and turn them in together for the removal of the drum. This pushed the drum off of the axle and brake shoes. Are there two (or more) threaded holes in the front of the drum near the wheel studs, if so try them. You may have to buy the bolts from your local hardware store.
Rocky is correct on this one. You need to remove the drum and then adjust the adjuster that way. If you pull the drum, make sure there is not a %26quot;lip%26quot; on the outer edge, where the brake lining stops at. That will give you a pain trying to adjust the brakes as you have to get past the lip. If there is a lip, have the drums turned to get rid of that lip so you can adjust the brakes and slide the drum back on. When adjusting the rear brakes in this manner. its a good idea to (after adjusting) hit the emergency brake a couple times to %26quot;rest%26quot; the shoes. It makes sure to seat the shoes in case they are out of alignment while adjusting them. This will ensure a proper job.
