Do I need to change brake drums at the same time as shoes?

Or do brake drums last much longer?
Do I need to change brake drums at the same time as shoes?
Maybe, depends on what kind of condition they are in. If they are badly scored or if they have turned too many times or have some type of damage, they would need to be replaced. But not just because the shoes are being replaced.

Drums tend to last a while. I would look at getting them %26quot;turned%26quot; when replacing the shoes though
You can wait to change them, i would just say get them both at the same time to assure that they work best together so you arent getting a high quality drum with a low quality shoe. The drums would last longer than the shoes just as the calibers last longer than the pads.
they last a small bit longer!
Only if the inside of the drums where the shoes ride are pitted, rusted or grooved bad. Check the wheel cylinders to make sure they are not frozen. When you have the shoes off press one side in and the other side should move out. Any leaks at the boots and you need to replace them both.
You will have to measure the thickest of the drums just like measuring the rotors to see if it within spec for resurfacing/turning.

The min measurement is cased on the drums.
You only need to change drums if they are out of spec. (to big diameter). You need a brake drum micrometer to check this. Most parts houses that machine drums can check this. If you wore your brakes to the metal and damaged your drums your probably need them. Otherwise they typically last for 3 or 4 brake jobs.
i figure replacing drums half as much as pads
you don,t need to change them as long as they are still good. you might want to get them turned down or at least use some sandpaper on the inside.
