Rear brakes locking up on a 99 Durango 4wd during moderate braking.?

99 Durango rear ABS drum brakes. Pedal had vibration during stopping, found a cracked front rotor, changed rotors and pads, thought that the front tires were the ones locking up. After changing these parts, vibration gone, but upon moderate braking, one or both of the rear wheels locks up and slides for a half a second then the abs kicks in and stopping is ok most of the time. sometimes it releases and then locks up again for another half second. The ABS light is not on. I am going to change rear shoes, should I go ahead and order drums or does this sound like a return spring or something is broken? Or, could this be some ABS issue that the sensor is not picking up and giving me a code? Please help as this is the only transportation for my wife and 2 yr old. thanks

try the wheel cylinders, I've had that problem before on a left rear tire on my truck. It may not be it, but it's a relativly easy fix if its your problem. Check all springs, self adjusters, etc. to make sure.

You may have fluid leaking on your rear shoes. You better take the rear drums off and check it out before you get the parts. It may be a: Wheel cylinder, an axle seal, broken spring, separated shoe lining, other loose parts flying around in there, a bad drum, who knows until you look at it. If you take pictures I can tell you.
Yes, take the rear drums off and check the hardware, you should get the drums turned because they warp easy.... and replace the brake shoes.
